Fastner Black Book

December 1, 2025 By: Zakk (Chifley, Australia)

Comments
Amazing design and general sanity check reference

Pros
Covers what's normally needed for UNS and metric fasteners

Cons
The only cons are minor ones. First is that it's a little lacking on BSW and BA hardware. These are still encountered in Commonwealth countries, especially in fields that service older equipment. The second is a lack of quick find tabs, which every other book has.

Fasteners, Engineer’s & Electrical Blackbooks

October 30, 2025 By: Louis Diepold (Bardon, Australia)

Comments
I love my three book set. My only gripe is that in the fasteners black book, the page with this review link on it was between the plastic sleeve for the Thread ID gauge, and the rear cover, which is titled thread ID gauge. This made my brain uncomfortable and I had to tear the page in between out. I am sure this kind of brain discomfort is over-represented in purchasers of these books.

One more thing, please also develop a page of quick-find tabs for the fasteners black book the same as electrical and engineer’s. I would appreciate being able to pull up specifics quickly as I fabricate a lot of fasteners from scratch. More “notes” tabs for engineers wouldn’t go astray either. I would also appreciate more than a sentence or two dedicated to “torque to yield” fasteners in the fasteners black book, and how to design such a fastener, which application to use it in, etc.

Pros
Basically everything about these books is elite. The workshop proof paper is a very nice touch. Some of the highest quality yet most applicable literature about working in trades that I’ve ever held.

Cons
No quick pull tab for “bearings” “hex sizing chart” (point to point on a hex head is something I need to look at every day) and… no drill gauge with engineers. Why give me the same thing for free with fasteners but not with engineers. My fellow machinists who bought earlier versions say they have one as included. Very strange.

Solid Book

October 6, 2025 By: Joe Barker, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (Green Bay, United States)

Comments
The Fastener Black Book is a compact but remarkably comprehensive reference that punches far above its size. While Machinery’s Handbook remains the “bible” of the mechanical trades, it’s often overkill when you just need fast, practical information on threads, torque, materials, or joint design. That’s where the Fastener Black Book truly shines.

Pros
Concepts like proof load vs. yield vs. tensile strength, or the effect of lubrication on torque–tension, are explained with concise diagrams and worked examples, not just formulas.

Fastener Black Book

Comments
This is one of the best fastener books I have personally looked at. The information is unlimited. This book is worth the money.

Pros
A lot of material is covered. The size of this book is a plus for me. The pages are not thin paper they are more of a laminate style

Cons
Could break down the table of contents a little better.

Feedback

Comments
Great information and explanation of subjects.

Pros
The Matt lamination is a great idea, as I’ll be using this in a car plant and will get dirty from the start.

Cons
The spiral holding the book together makes the pages catch and if not careful, could rip the page.

Fastener Black Book

March 12, 2025 By: Jeff Ni6 (Knoxville, United States)

Comments
Great quick reference book. Much faster than looing thru the Machinery Handbook.

Pros
Well organized lots of illustrations

Cons
There were a few pages that had creases in them. You could tell they were done before it was bound, because you could not get them out due to the hole locations. It's not a huge issue, but not something I was expecting for the cost
